Children's progress and attainment is assessed, this is both summative and formative.

Assessment evidence is based on what the children do, say, write, draw, design and make. Teachers assess pupils knowledge, skills and concepts, their application and attitude to work as well as their behaviour in school. Successes are shared with the children and areas for development are highlighted.

Formative  assessment is made of each child:

  • on entry to Rathmell School.
  • at the end of the Reception year children are assessed using the Foundation Stage Profile.
  • at the end of Year 1 children complete the phonic screening test.
  • year 2 children are assessed using the statutory end of Key Stage 1 assessments.
  • children in Years 3-5 are assessed in English, mathematics  and science using the schools tracking system "Target Tracker".
  • statutory end of KS2 tests take place in Writing and Science (teacher assessed), Mathematics, Reading, English Grammar, spelling and punctuation in May
  •  reading is  assessed twice a year using the Salford Reading Test.

Children’s progress and attainment  is tracked and regularly monitored in key subjects, using Target Tracker, at the end of every term.

Due to small cohort numbers end of Key Stage tests are not always available for publication.

The analysis of data informs school development.
