Rathmell is a small, rural village school for children from four to ten years old. There are two classes, Class 1 consists of children from Foundation Stage to Year 2, Class 2 consists of Years 3 to 6.
At present a Pre-Reception class runs for five half-day sessions per week during the Spring and Summer terms. Children are eligible the term after their 4th Birthday.
The children are taught in mixed year classes throughout their time at Rathmell however, the curriculum is differentiated to meet the child’s needs. Prior to children starting school, staff make home visits. They also liaise with pre-school settings to ensure smooth transition and to establish positive links between parents, children and school.
Education after Rathmell School
During the child’s final year at Rathmell School, parents need to complete a Parental Preference Form, indicating which school they wish their child to attend next. The majority of children transfer to Settle College . Numerous opportunities are in place to allow children to familiarise themselves with Settle College staff and the school prior to transfer. Staff from both schools liaise to discuss a child’s attainment and specific needs at the time of transfer. Meetings are also in place for parents.
Our school operates a breakfast and afterschool club,
run by one of our members of staff.
Our Early Risers club runs from 7.45 - 8.45, where a choice of breakfast is provided.
Rathmell Wrappers club runs from 3.30 - 5.30, a snack tea is provided.
We do lots of interesting and fun activities such as den building, kite making, baking, treasure hunts and fun quizzes!
